This month's book highlight is the Percy Jackson & The Olympians series by Rick Riordian. This fantastic series is very accessible to students in all grades. I read them as a sophomore in college and loved how easily I could slip into the ficitonal worlds and character's stories. There are a total of 5 books in this series and Riordian also has other series that are similar. Some focus on Greek mythology, while others focus on Egyptian mythology and others.
What I love most about this series is the character's likeability, the non-stop action, twists and turns along the way, and it leaves you wanting more. The movie based off the first book "The Lightning Thief" wasn't quite as good as the book. We know the saying 'the book was better' and it most cases that is absolutely true. The first book in the series has a lot more depth than the movie was able to provide.
If you're interested in this series, head over to your school or local library and see if they have a copy you can check out. I found they were quick reads and the content is great so I found myself reading even more quickly!
